E-passports have been issued since March 2023 by the General Authority for State Registration and district registration offices. With an e-passport, Mongolian citizens can pass through E-Gate systems in visa-free countries without waiting in line. These include frequently traveled destinations such as Australia, Canada, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Turkey, and Schengen countries.
E-passports allow travelers to pass border control in Mongolia and abroad by simply scanning the passport at designated devices, saving 30–60 minutes at immigration checkpoints.
How to re-order an e-passport via E-Mongolia:
- • Log in to the E-Mongolia website with your account;
- • Search for “Re-order e-passport”;
- • Upload required documents and complete the description section (Carefully read the instructions and upload a compliant photo);
- • Review the payment details and complete payment to confirm your order.
Processing time in Ulaanbaatar, within 5 working days and local areas, within 15 working days.
When to apply for a new passport:
- • Lost or unusable passport;
- • Expired passport;
- • No remaining visa pages;
- • Changes in personal information or appearance.
Notice: First-time passport applicants must apply in person at their district’s one-stop service center.
Existing standard (non-electronic) passports remain valid until expiration. Citizens may choose between standard and electronic passports when applying in the future.
