Global Media and Information Literacy Week, commemorated annually in the last week of October.
This year, the 5th National Stakeholder Forum on Media and Information Literacy (MIL) was held with the support of UNESCO Beijing Cluster Office on 7 November 2023, at the Consensus Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the slogan “Media and Information Literacy in Digital Spaces” .
Mr. Uchral Nyam-Osor, The Minister of Digital Development and Communication, Ms. Solongoo Bayarsaikhan, Deputy Minister of Justice and Home Affairs, Mr. Tsedevsuren, State Secretary of Ministry of Education and Science, Ms. Munkhmandakh, Executive Director of the Press Institute of Mongolia and Ms. Narantuya, Member of National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia delivered opening remarks.
Mr. Uchral Nyam-Osor, Minister of Digital Development and Communication, emphasized that the Government of Mongolia has specified a direction in its policy documents to improve citizens’ e-skills and is working to ensure its implementation.
The discussions during the forum were around 5 major aspects. These includes:
- Media and Information Literacy: Formal and Non-formal Education Policies, Programs, and Needs
- Freedom of Expression in the Electronic Environment and Its Limitations
- Media and Information Literacy and Gender Equality
- The Era of Artificial Intelligence: Security Issues Based on Media and Information Literacy
- Citizen Journalism and Electronic Media
The discussion titled "Media and Information Literacy: Formal and Non-Formal Education Policies, Programs, and Needs" was moderated by Mr. V. Lut-Ochir, Head of the Department for Digital Literacy at "E-Mongolia Academy" SOE. During the conversation, we exchanged ideas about the significance of implementing, promoting, and integrating media literacy content into the curriculum.
Media and information literacy (MIL) significantly influences the effective utilization of all forms of media in today's rapidly changing world. It aids in the development of comprehensive knowledge and skills, enabling individuals to maximize the benefits and minimize negative impacts from information use.
