The launch of the national One Billion Trees National Movement in 2021 marked a new chapter in Mongolia’s efforts to protect and restore the environment. As part of this initiative, extensive efforts have been undertaken nationwide to increase the participation of citizens, businesses, and organizations in expanding forest resources and green spaces.
In response to the call issued by the Office of the President of Mongolia to join the One Billion Trees National Movement, a tree-planting event was successfully held on May 8, 2026, at the International Eco Park.
As part of its social responsibility initiatives, the staff of the E-Mongolia Academy joined the “What We Give to Nature Returns to Us” tree-planting campaign. Through the implementation of the “One Employee – One Tree” initiative, the organization invested in an environmentally friendly future by planting a tree for each employee, making a meaningful contribution to sustainable green development.
Approximately one-quarter of Ulaanbaatar’s total territory consists of forested land. However, the amount of green space available per person remains below international standards. Researchers also note that the impacts of climate change in Mongolia have intensified significantly in recent years, with the country’s average temperature increasing by 2.2–2.4°C over the past 70–80 years—warming nearly three times faster than the global average.
While a single tree produces enough oxygen each day for approximately three people to breathe, many people are unaware that decomposing paper waste can harbor harmful bacteria and release gases that are significantly more harmful than carbon dioxide, negatively affecting both the environment and public health.
Tree planting is considered one of the most effective long-term green investments, providing numerous benefits for the environment, human health, and urban development, including:
- Absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen, helping to improve air quality
- Regulating temperatures and reducing urban heat effects
- Protecting soil from wind and water erosion while slowing land degradation
- Expanding green areas and helping combat desertification
- Retaining soil moisture and supporting the natural water cycle
- Reducing urban noise and dust, creating a more pleasant living environment
